The reason why I haven’t posted anything in a week:
I was out of town and I’ve been busy meeting family and friends. Also, the Wi-Fi at home is very slow.
The reason why I haven’t posted anything in a week in a universe where we say what’s on our mind and not be politically correct that we sugar coat the truth:
I went on a vacation. I was then flat out drunk with friends that I mistakenly thought one of them was a gorilla and try to force feed him a banana. I woke up not knowing where I am so I took a shower, shake like a dog, and went on my way.
The Wi-Fi at home only works if I move to the northwest corner of my room, lay on the floor, sacrifice a goat and chant my name backwards.
Now, don’t worry. Regular posts will be coming soon now that I’m back and sober. I have several music lined up and on the way.
It’s that time again to hear them old classics. I was watching Denzel Washington’s Book of Eli movie and there’s this part where he puts on his iPod and was listening to some soul music.
It sounded familar to me and with some searching, it turned out to be Al Green’s How Can You Mend A Broken Heart.
If you don’t know Al Green, he has been recently inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is a gospel and soul music singer that was popular in the 1970s up until now. I don’t know about you but they don’t make this kind of music no more.
After listening to the track, you’ll know that he is on a league of his own.
I’m about to head back home to my loving country in a few days and was feeling in a party mood. I have David Guetta’s album One Love which has this track but I love how Dutch Dj Sidney Sampson flipped this around.
You have David Guetta, Chris Willis, LMFAO, and Fergie all in one track. How can it not be good?
Just like the title from her EP - One of Those Days, Joy Williams serves us a laid back song which is good after having “one of those days” either from work or school.
It has a melancholy sound which is mostly piano driven with some electronic tunes that gives a haunting feel to it. You pair this with her voice and it comes out chill and pleasant to the ear.
Nostalgia 77 Ft. Alice Russell - “Seven Nation Army” (The White Stripes reggae cover)
It was raining today and I was in a mood for some beach vibes so here’s a nice reggae cover of The White Stripe’s Seven Nation Army.
I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of the song because it was one of their biggest hits. If you haven’t then here you go. At first, I thought it was a cool bass riff but to my surprise it isn’t. It’s actually a semi-acoustic guitar through an effects pedal.
It’s amazing how you can take a song, put your own spin on it, and it comes out a totally new song. That’s music for you.
This is pretty much self-explanatory. Me and my best bud always say when this day rolls around, “Age is just a state of mind.”
Like my boy Jay-Z says in his song “Forever Young”, the sun is always out and the champagnes always cold. You never seem to get old and the music’s always good. It’s a picture perfect day to last a whole lifetime and it never ends coz we all have to do is hit rewind.
Let’s stay in the moment. Smoke, drink some wine, and reminisce coz we forever young in our mind.
“So if you love me baby this is how you let me know.
Don’t ever let me go, that’s how you let me know, baby.”
It’s a Friday! Look at me stating the obvious! You know what time it is? Did you say house cleaning and laundry? I did those three months ago. It’s time to party, silly.
If you don’t know me, I’m an old school at heart. I believe that any mix or playlist should have a couple of old tracks in it. You should know how to pay your respect. A lot of current artists have been influenced by music from the past. Also, a lot of our current songs are samples from past songs. So the next time you hear a hit on the radio, you might want to check coz it might be a sample of an old song.
This is why every Friday I’ll post some old tracks that I think is cool. Don’t worry I’m sure your parents and great ancestors will think so too. I’ll call it some cheesy name like Old School Fridays or Way Back Fridays or Blast from the Fridays. Okay, I’ll stop.
First up is Simon & Garfunkel, a popular singer-songwriter duo from the 1960s. I used to remember dad singing their song, “Bridge over Troubled Water”. He sang it quite well. “Well” is the word I use because he’s my dad. Personally, I like their song “Cecilia”. I posted a cover while here’s the original in all its glory.
It’s summer once again! On my way to work, I can’t help but wonder why the heck am I working on this lovely day? Oh right, money.
This reminded me of a quote from Calvin and Hobbes where he sulks inside the classroom, looks at the clock, and suddenly shouts, “What on earth am I doing inside on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I’ve got to live!!!”
I’ve got a few tracks that are perfect for that ride in your convertible with the top down with your girl on the way to the beach. You then chill with a cold beer in hand, sand beneath your feet while watching the sunset.
I was feeling the hip-hop vibe so there you go. Funny story, I was able to know about Wale while listening to Kid Cudi. In a couple of his tracks, he shouts, Wale!
It’s late. I should have gone to sleep hours ago. Instead, I’m here randomly searching for new songs to listen to when I found this little gold nugget - Ivan & Alyosha’s Easy to Love.
As the name suggests, the song is “easy to love”. The song has simple chords with a nice touch of whistles and heavy drums in it. The lyrics follow suit in its simplicity.
“And I know you’re good / You know I try most of the time / And we’ve been through that / And we came out on top because”
It’s a song filled with optimism that says as long as you’re in love, you guys can make it work. Ironically, this is the same as for everything in life.
Who doesn’t love sleep? Well, aside from vampires, I do. A lot. I remember a time when the librarian woke me up with drool on my chin because we’re not allowed to sleep in the library. I was surprised how she was able to find me because I hid myself in nice spot. I then realized that my music was too loud and it’s coming out of my headphones.
I guess I can sleep through anything even loud music. But you don’t have to.
Enter Zero 7. They’re a chill, downtempo duo with an ambient sound. If you think they sound familiar, it’s because a lot of their music has been featured on movies and TV shows.
This song is always part of my “It’s raining” and “I want to sleep but can’t” playlist. On that note, I’m sleepy.
WhatsAllThisRacket wants you to lay back, tilt your head, and close your eyes.
If you just tuned in to your stereo, turn it up. Here we go.
What's that on your iPod? Tell me what you listening to.
